Larkspur Lasers

The Larkspur Lasers are a part of the Virginia Beach Swim League (VBSL), Marlin Division.  Due to the impacts of COVID-19, VBSL will not have an official 2020 Season.

In lieu of a regular season, Larkspur Swim and Racquet Club has decided to offer swim clinics throughout the summer to allow our swimmers to continue to develop their skills and knowledge of swimming.

The clinics will adhere to federal, state, local, and CDC guidelines to keep our swimmers, staff, families and volunteers safe while providing a fun, social, and learning environment for swimmers.

Larkspur Lasers:  Swim Clinic Session I                              June 29th – July 25th

Stay tuned for a potential 2nd session!

Meet the Coaches

Coach Carina

Head Coach Carina Masson

Favorite Skill: Body position! It is the most important building block for all 4 strokes. You can’t build a stroke until you have the right body position. This goes for 4 year olds all the way up to senior level swimmers.  One little thing off can throw off your entire stroke and cause inefficiency and slower speeds when racing.

Favorite Stroke: Backstroke and butterfly to swim, freestyle to coach

BIO: Coach Carina has a passion for coaching with a focus on instilling proper technique and a love for swimming in every athlete. She is excited to be back with Larkspur this summer.  She is an age group coach for Coastal Virginia Aquatic Club, a licensed nurse continuing her education to obtain her BSN and can sometimes be found working at Aquawear. She has 6 years of year round coaching experience and was a Virginia Swimming Zones coach for 2 years. She started swimming competitively at age 11 and received a swimming scholarship to a Division I university. She still swims competitively when she has time and is the holder of  statewide age group records for Virginia Masters Swimming.  She is married to a Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician and is the mother of four swimmers. You can find her relaxing on the beach or by the pool, biking or trying to find a quiet place to study in her spare time.

Message to Larkspur Lasers: What a start to 2020! I know this isn’t the summer swim experience we all hoped for but I am confident we can have a great time swimming, socializing, learning new skills and ending with an awesome and fun event to showcase the skills learned. Just keep swimming!

Coach Cason

Coach Cason Wilburn

Favorite Stroke/Skill:  Sprint Free & Butterfly

Bio:  Coach Cason currently swims at the University of Notre Dame.  He swam locally in the area for 15 years.  He first started swimming at the age of four and swam for both VBSL and USA swimming.  Cason has broken 14 state records and was named an all-American this year in college.  Cason has coached with the River Walk Gators for  3 years and has provided private swim lessons during that time as well. Away from the pool, he is majoring in environmental engineering and graduated from First Colonial High School in 2019.

Message to Larkspur Lasers:  Going into this clinic, I am super excited to get to work with everyone to improve their swimming ability as well as mentor young swimmers and share my life skills.  Even though this has been an odd year, I intend to make the most of it and have a great clinic teaching swimming skills.

Coach Eric Zank

Message to Larkspur Lasers: I’m super excited to be back with the Lasers this summer! I know the circumstances are a little odd this year, but I’m pumped for another year of fun at the Larkspur pool!
